THE NECK IS NOT AN AREA FOR A HEAVY HAND This video was recorded during one of my trainings with a healthy young model. Her carotid artery was clearly visible pulsating beneath the skin. It was a powerful reminder of how closely our hands work to some of the body’s most vital structures. The carotid arteries are the primary arteries that supply oxygen rich blood to the brain. They travel along both sides of the neck. Nearby is the carotid sinus, which contains pressure sensitive receptors that help regulate blood pressure and heart rate. Every person’s anatomy is unique. Some carotid arteries lie deeper, while others are much closer to the surface, regardless of age. We cannot know exactly where these structures are in every client, which is why the neck should always be treated with respect.
