MLS has its next commissioner.
MLS owners have selected LAFC co-owner Larry Berg to succeed Don Garber as the league’s third commissioner, marking the beginning of a new era for a league that has spent the past two decades focused on expansion and infrastructure growth.
Berg, a longtime private equity executive and key figure behind LAFC’s rise into one of MLS’s most valuable and successful franchises, is expected to take over in 2027.
His appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the league, which is shifting its focus from expansion fees to long-term revenue growth through media rights, sponsorship and fan engagement.
