GM has a patent out that focuses on one of the more common EV friction points: waiting for a charger.
The concept is pretty straightforward. One DC fast charger connects to multiple smaller access points, allowing more than one vehicle to plug in at the same time. The system would monitor each vehicle’s battery level and adjust how power is shared.
Today, most public fast charging sits around 150 kW, while newer stations can go much higher. This kind of setup could make better use of that capacity, especially in busy locations where lines build up.
Still early, but it shows where some of the problem solving is happening.
