GM is moving its next hands-free, eyes-off system out of the test loop and onto public highways.
Starting this week, the company is deploying 200 test vehicles across California and Michigan as it works toward a 2028 launch on the Cadillac Escalade IQ.
That may sound far out, but the groundwork is already pretty extensive. GM says it has mapped more than 1 million miles of roads in 34 states over the last six months alone.
There is also a lot of prior learning feeding this effort, from Cruise robotaxi testing to more than 800 million miles of Super Cruise usage.
The launch starts with one flagship EV.
The plan clearly does not end there.
