Waymo's cars can navigate Austin. Parking legally has apparently been the harder problem. The company’s autonomous fleet has received 83 parking citations totaling more than $9,000, including tickets for expired meters, tow-away zones and a disabled parking space. It sounds funny, but it points to a much larger operational challenge. Human rideshare drivers handle parking, repositioning and downtime on their own. An autonomous fleet needs systems, facilities and people behind the scenes to manage all of it. Removing the driver does not remove the work. Watch the full episode on our channel.
