A lot of young actors were passing on Gregg Araki's
#IWantYourSex because they didn’t want to play a sub and, as the director puts it, were wary of the more “unmanly” elements the role came with.
“They weren’t secure enough to do it,” he says.
#CooperHoffman wasn’t worried about that part and was excited about the nerves he felt when reading the script. He flew himself out to L.A. to do an in-person chemistry read with Olivia Wilde. “That cinched it for me,” Araki says. “He’s so young, but he has a lot of gravitas. It reminded me of the way Brady Corbet was; he was 15 when we made 'Mysterious Skin', but he talked like a 30-year-old.”
