Mary Sears (1905 –1997) earned her PhD in Zoology from #harvarduniversity. During WWII, she was a commander in the United States Naval Reserve during WWII, making significant contributions to landing reports for the US navy based on her oceanography background. She later became chairman at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. She was the founding editor of Deep-Sea Research.
