Ever wondered what it’s really like to wear the badge?⁣ ⁣ Twenty-four Year 11 and 12 students from across the Geelong region got a behind-the-scenes look at policing as part of the Geelong Youth Academy program.⁣ ⁣ And it wasn’t all sitting in a classroom, either.⁣ ⁣ Students tackled a mock burglary investigation, following a case from the first police response through to the courtroom, while working alongside specialist members.⁣ ⁣ They also put their problem-solving skills to the test, working in teams to address issues affecting young people in the community. Their ideas were then pitched to a panel of Victoria Police members, local council representatives and Crime Stoppers.⁣ ⁣ The group also visited the Victoria Police Academy, touring the facilities and chatting with current recruits about life at the academy.⁣ ⁣ Now in its second year, the program gives local students the opportunity to experience policing beyond what they see on TV.
