Ever wondered what it’s really like to wear the badge?
Twenty-four Year 11 and 12 students from across the Geelong region got a behind-the-scenes look at policing as part of the Geelong Youth Academy program.
And it wasn’t all sitting in a classroom, either.
Students tackled a mock burglary investigation, following a case from the first police response through to the courtroom, while working alongside specialist members.
They also put their problem-solving skills to the test, working in teams to address issues affecting young people in the community. Their ideas were then pitched to a panel of Victoria Police members, local council representatives and Crime Stoppers.
The group also visited the Victoria Police Academy, touring the facilities and chatting with current recruits about life at the academy.
