One of Oregon’s most stunning natural attractions is back open to the public, after a complex of wildfires burned through the high desert landscape. The National Park Service announced Thursday evening that the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument has reopened to the public, with all but one viewpoint now accessible. While fires scorched parts of the landscape, the monument’s historic ranch buildings, paleontology museum, trails, restrooms and other resources all appear to have escaped unharmed.
