Get rid of it or keep it? 🤔 We got to attend the MLS All-Star Game in Charlotte thanks to continental_tire and experienced firsthand why it remains a staple in the American soccer calendar. Although many might think the All-Star tradition in our soccer landscape comes from imitating baseball or basketball, All-Star games in American soccer leagues actually date back to the 1920s! The first “full” All-Star team assembled by a professional soccer league in the US was in 1927, when the ASL All-Stars played the Uruguayan National Team, which had won the 1924 Olympics (and would go on to win the 1928 edition). The game ended 4-2 in favor of Uruguay. Ever since then, assembling All-Star teams has been a tried-and-true tradition in American soccer for a whole century.
