Beginning Aug. 1, the tax rate for the Northern Illinois Transit Authority, formerly the Regional Transit Authority, went up by .25% in six counties. That includes Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties. In Cook County, the tax rate is 1.25%, while the others are 1%.
