When it comes to law enforcement, sons tend to follow in their father’s footsteps. Then friends follow their friends. Just ask John Herold Jr., a state trooper from Meridian who, along with six other childhood friends, became a police officer after his father. Herold Jr. attended National Night Out on Tuesday at the Pullman Recreation Complex to join his small law enforcement community with the larger Butler Township community. “They can ask us questions, and we can show that we’re normal people, just like them,” said his father, John Herold, deputy chief of the Butler Township Police Department.
