The NYPD says New York City has recorded the fewest shooting incidents, shooting victims and murders in recorded history for the first seven months of the year and for the month of July. Despite the historic numbers, some say the statistics don’t reflect how they feel about safety. The mayor says there is more work to be done and wants to invest more in housing and youth programming. Hate crimes have also increased, with 360 reported this year compared to 329 during the same period last year.
