Vance Boelter appeared in Hennepin County court Monday as Minnesota’s murder case against him got underway. Boelter, who admitted in federal court to killing Melissa and Mark Hortman and attempting to kill Yvette, Hope and Sen. John Hoffman, spoke at length about his health, confinement, religious freedom and conspiracies. He did not enter a plea, and the judge made no major rulings. The hearing came less than two weeks after Boelter received two consecutive federal life sentences plus 40 years.
