Ronald Reed, who is serving a life sentence for the 1970 killing of St. Paul police officer James Sackett, is scheduled to appear before Minnesota’s Supervised Release Board for a fourth time on Aug. 11.
The board is legally required to consider 12 factors, including Reed’s prison record, rehabilitation, criminal history, potential public safety risk and input from Sackett’s family. His family strongly opposes his release and says it continues to fight for justice more than five decades after Sackett’s death.
