A BASE jump in the Superstition Mountains went wrong mid air Thursday.
Arizona DPS says the jumper struck a rock wall during the jump and was left stranded on the cliff face east of Apache Junction. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office called in the DPS Ranger 1 helicopter.
Video released by DPS shows crews hoisting the jumper off the cliff and onto the helicopter, then flying them down to the Siphon Draw trailhead.
No word yet on the jumper’s condition and no details on what led up to the jump.
The Superstitions have pulled this kind of rescue before. Sheer rock, no footing, nothing to anchor to.
Would you ever jump off the Superstitions?
