It started with relatives asking somebody to go check on a family.
Avondale police say family members requested a welfare check on the residents of a Litchfield Park home near Spring Street and Wigwam Boulevard, a husband, a wife and their adult son. On Tuesday, August 4, officers went inside with the help of a family member. During that check they found indications that foul play may have occurred.
Thursday morning, Avondale PD announced human remains had been found buried in the backyard. Read this part carefully. The remains have not been identified, and police have not said who they belong to. The case is now being investigated as a homicide, and detectives are working with other agencies to recover the remains.
Police say they believe the adult son, 27-year-old Matthew Flores, fled the country before officers ever entered the home. Their word for him is alleged suspect. He has not been arrested and has not been charged with anything.
