A father and his 16-year-old son were stranded for nearly five hours in Arizona’s remote desert after their rented Jeep became stuck on an off-road trail.
As temperatures climbed to 114°, they ran out of drinking water and eventually made the decision to hike for miles through the desert in search of cell service.
Once they finally reached an area with a signal, they called 911 and were safely rescued.
Search and rescue officials say the incident is a reminder to never head into remote desert areas without extra water, emergency supplies and a backup plan.
