He went for a 70-year-old man’s backpack in a Tucson dining room. He did not make it out the door with it. Tucson police released surveillance video this week from an attempted robbery on July 9 at a fast food restaurant near Oracle and Prince roads. Investigators say a 34-year-old man followed the 70-year-old inside and went after the backpack sitting on his walker. The video shows the suspect walking up beside him and trying to pull the bag off his arms. The older man held on. During the struggle he was knocked to the ground. That is when bystanders in the restaurant ran at the suspect, who dropped the backpack and took off. Witnesses stayed and gave officers a description and the direction he headed. Police located him within minutes and booked him on a charge of attempted robbery. His name has not been released. The 70-year-old had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
