At Chiso, an atelier standing since 1555, around 20 artisans worked in coordination to hand-dye the kimono annasawai wears in the film, using kyo-yuzen techniques passed down for centuries. A butterfly in kokimurasaki, Hibiki’s signature purple, rests on the finished piece as a symbol of transformation. From there, to Eriko Horiki’s studio, where washi paper takes shape from natural fibres, each edge hand-torn. The same paper that has wrapped every Hibiki label since 1989. And finally, to Yamazaki.
