OpenAI may be preparing its first real step beyond the screen. According to Bloomberg, the company is developing a portable, screenless AI device with Jony Ive’s team that could launch in 2027 for more than $300. The device is reportedly doughnut shaped, roughly the size of a hockey puck and designed to move easily throughout the home. It could include cameras, microphones, lights, environmental sensors and mechanical components that physically respond while the AI is interacting with you. At first glance, it sounds like another smart speaker. But the deeper idea is far more ambitious. OpenAI is trying to create an AI first computer that does not wait inside an app. It listens, sees, understands context and remains present throughout the day.
