August 7th is International Beer Day! Sacramento’s brewing history began with the Galena Brewery, operated by Peter Cadel, in 1849 a block from Sutter’s Fort. Four years later, Louis Keseberg, a survivor of the Donner Party, operated the Phoenix Brewery for 8 years where the Galena once stood. Sacramento had a lot of breweries over the years. After all, Mark Twain once dubbed Sacramento the “City of Saloons.” For today, Jared letterpress printed a beer related photo engraving that includes a barrel and some hops. This was recently acquired off of eBay. This was printed with red rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. #InternationalBeerDay #beer #SacHistoryMuseum #museum #printing
