No, those aren’t dinosaur bones. That’s a melted culvert (a pipe that normally carries water underneath the road). That’s how intense the #CottonwoodFire in Beaver was. When we talk about repairing SR-153, it’s not as simple as filling in a washout with some gravel. The fire and flooding damaged more than 20 miles of roadway, with impacts on both sides of the highway. Right now, our crews are working on the east (Junction) side, replacing damaged culverts like these. If all goes as planned, we’re hopeful that section can reopen by the end of this week. The west (paved) side experienced much more extensive damage and will remain closed while repairs continue. We’ll continue to keep you updated.
