I am sitting here watching my feed fill up with people telling me the fires across Europe are being caused by weather modification. 🔥
They are half right.
We have modified the weather. Not with a transmitter in Alaska. With two centuries of coal, oil and gas, and with a food system built on animals.
Greece had around 60 new fires break out in a single day on 1 August. Spain has lost 186,544 hectares since January, and the Ávila fire is now the largest in the country's recorded history. France has passed 115,000 hectares, a national record. The Met Office forecast has this year at 1.46°C above pre-industrial, the fourth year running above 1.4.
Hotter air pulls moisture out of soil and vegetation. Fuel that used to resist a spark now takes it.
