Spain has lost 186,544 hectares since January, and the Ávila fire is now the largest in the country's recorded history. France has passed 115,000 hectares, a national record. The Met Office forecast has this year at 1.46°C above pre-industrial, the fourth year running above 1.4. Hotter air pulls moisture out of soil and vegetation. Fuel that used to resist a spark now takes it. Fossil fuels did most of this. But industrialised animal agriculture is the second engine and it barely gets named.
