Here’s a small glimpse into one of our advanced youth groups, de-loading right before school starts.
This summer, we stressed the importance of consistency and discipline, highlighting the difference between training and just working out. We executed the same program for 9 weeks straight, incorporating progressive overload and small increases in volume throughout. The plan was to keep it simple so that the kids could execute at a high level and improve.
Every kid is now lifting at least 1 to 1.5 times their body weight. They can all do a weighted push-up and some form of pull-up (even weighted). They can all hinge, squat, push, pull, etc. Some kids have gained 6 to 10 pounds and are running faster than ever. It wasn’t a magic wand; it was simply following the plan and applying effort.
This summer, these kids made significant strides in their athletic performance. Understand that well-coached, simple programs can change the course of your child’s athletic career.
