12 years ago today, Nicki Minaj released “Anaconda.” A team of producers led by Polow da Don, alongside DJ Spydr and Da Internz, built 'Anaconda' around a prominent sample of Sir Mix-a-Lot's 1992 hit "Baby Got Back," released as the second single from Nicki Minaj's third studio album, 'The Pinkprint.' Minaj recorded the track that April at Glenwood Recording Studios in Burbank, reportedly working through numerous versions before settling on the final mix, with Da Internz's added drum work ultimately giving her the sound she was chasing. Sir Mix-a-Lot himself praised the finished song, saying it earned him a whole new level of respect for Minaj and made him a genuine fan of her work.
