This model was developed from hypothetical scientific inferences, drawn from the preserved skeletal remains and from comparison with related carcharodontosaurids. The skull shows a fine-grained skin structure with grooved, tubercled ornamentation — densest and most pronounced on the snout, around the eye socket, and along the upper margins of the jaws. The surface is matte, covered in small plates and shallow furrows, without any sheen — consistent with what is inferred about the skin of the large predators of the Cretaceous.
The coloration is based on a grey-brown-olive palette with dark, irregular blotches, forming a disruptive pattern that breaks up the animal’s outline. This camouflage worked both in open terrain and in the shade of the forest — in keeping with the Cretaceous conditions of Patagonia (around 98 million years ago) in which
#Giganotosaurus lived: a mosaic of rivers, wooded plains, and more open ground. On the snout, near the nostril and at the corner of the jaw, redd...
