Despite calls for the show to be canceled, including from Kercher's family, Knox says it is a retelling of her own traumatic and personal experience through a comedic lens. Kercher's murder almost two decades ago caught global headlines after Knox, who is American and her Italian then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were accused and convicted of her murder, along with Ivorian migrant Rudy Guede. After appeals and retrials, Knox and Sollecito were acquitted, and Guede was sentenced to 16 years in prison, serving 13.
