We were thrilled to welcome students from area high schools to the Judicial Center yesterday. They came from schools connected to the Center for Advanced Professional Studies network, or CAPS, and their visit was to complete a design challenge based on a prompt from us. The challenge invited students to step into a real-world consulting role to research, generate ideas, and prototype solutions to boost student understanding of and participation in Supreme Court travel dockets. Students were assigned to teams to exercise their collaborative problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, two-hour design sprint. Afterward, they pitched their best ideas to a panel of volunteer judges that included three Supreme Court justices. They gained valuable experience, and we gained a better understanding of how we can connect with high school students before, during, and after travel dockets.
