As we celebrate Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week, we shine a spotlight on Kansas court services officers who are vital to our courts and our communities. Erin Barnes is a court services officer in the 29th Judicial District (Wyandotte County), where she works in domestic court services. Erin works with parents who are separating or getting a divorce. She helps them reach an agreement on what works best for their children. She says it's rewarding to see the parents’ "aha moments" when they recognize they have the power to make good choices for their kids on their own. She believes her greatest skill is her ability to actively listen to the people using her services. Although it can be challenging to watch parents struggle, Erin believes her work in domestic services makes a difference in the lives of the people involved.
