š āThe place next door has mice.ā
Now THIS is a great piece of Southern California theme park history.
On January 20, 1980, this Knottās Berry Farm advertisement appeared in a special Los Angeles Times advertising supplement celebrating Disneylandās 25th anniversary.
Rather than taking a shot at its famous neighbor, Knottās used the clever headline to congratulate Disneyland, Mickey and Minnie; while recognizing the relationship between two parks that helped shape Southern California tourism.
Knottās was celebrating a milestone of its own in 1980: its 60th anniversary.
The ad ends with a great line:
āThanks, Disneyland. For a place with mice, youāve been a truly wonderful neighbor.ā
Two legendary Southern California parks. Two major anniversaries. And one fantastic advertisement from 1980.
