Maria came to the United States with her young daughter to escape gang violence and build a safer life. For the next 10 years, she and her husband Francisco worked, raised their family, and welcomed two more daughters. Then in February, Maria went to a routine ISAP appointment (See below for what an ISAP appointment is) and never came home. Maria was taken by ICE, transferred to a detention center in Louisiana, and ultimately deported, leaving Francisco to care for their three daughters, 17, 6, and 18 months old. Francisco was forced to leave his steady job so he could care for his children. Their savings were exhausted by Maria’s attorney fees, their oldest daughter’s asylum case IS STILL UNRESOLVED, and on top of everything Francisco is living with diabetes, a serious chronic disease that requires ongoing care and management, while trying to care for his three daughters.
