Today, Japan marks the 81st anniversary since the atomic bombing of Nagasaki and on Thursday the country commemorated the same for Hiroshima.
The 1945 atomic bombings by the United States killed more than 210,000 people, including from the effects of radiation exposure.
The anniversary has sparked discussion from Japanese leaders who are calling for renewed debate on nuclear deterrence.
Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi declined to specify whether she would maintain the current national commitment based on three principles: not to possess, not to produce, and not to allow the introduction of nuclear weapons into Japan.
