Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has defended Ottawa’s approach to trade negotiations with the United States, saying Canada is focused on protecting workers and businesses.
Speaking in Quebec, Carney responded to recent comments from U.S. President Donald Trump accusing Canada of being "nasty", saying the government was standing up for the country’s interests.
He said talks between Canadian and U.S. officials were continuing as part of a review of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement.
Carney also highlighted what he described as positive signs in the Canadian economy, saying job creation, foreign investment and business spending were beginning to pick up.
