Researchers in Western Australia have captured rare drone footage of a dolphin mother carrying her dead calf through the water in what they say is an extended display of grief.⁣ ⁣ The calf, born just two weeks earlier in the Leschenault Estuary, died after showing signs of respiratory distress.⁣ ⁣ Drone footage filmed by Geographe Marine Research on July 19 and 20 shows the mother, known as "Fraggle," continuing to carry her offspring while other dolphins appeared to stay nearby.⁣ ⁣ Researchers said dolphins typically mourn for several days or up to a week, but Fraggle carried her calf for 11 days.
