A male baby elephant at Vienna Zoo, turning one on August 20, is learning to beat the heat by following an older female "aunt" into their bathing pool.⁣ ⁣ Weighing 400 kilograms, he is also learning trunk usage by imitating adult animals. Bathing, showering, and taking mud or sand baths help the elephants stay cool and protect their skin from insects.⁣ ⁣ "Our young bull elephant is always right there in the thick of it. He usually follows right after his favourite aunt, already checking to see how deep he can go into the bathing pool," said zoo keeper Jenny Bukowski.
