Yep - Namibia has its own version! Smaller, greener than anything you picture when you picture Namibia, and few tourists have even heard of it.
Zoom in on a map 🗺️ and find the skinny strip poking out of Namibia’s northeast corner, wedged between Botswana, Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe. That’s where we found ourselves after a 3-day drive across the country.
Elephants have moved through this corridor for centuries (before the countries’ borders even existed). 🐘
Then the poaching started.
Rangers were under-resourced and floods blocked access to the islands… and the wildlife population nearly evaporated.
Even the birds learned to stay away. 💔
But this story has a happy ending: Conservationists have spent the last few years fiercely protecting the land and restoring it as a safe passageway… and it’s working. 🙌🏼
