Continuing on in our 5 straight days of hiking training in Hawaii... Our second hike of Day 1 was the Pu'u Ma'eli'eli Trail on the east side of Oahu. 🌊 A local friend recommended this one to us, and I see why! You hike up a decently steep and muddy incline to a Pillbox. (Pillbox is the name on Oahu for old bunkers from WWII that now provide excellent hiking and stunning views.) Views at the top include the Kaneohe sand bar, China man's hat, and the iconic Kualoa Ranch. 👀 The trail name means "digging hill." Lenged says that two Hawaiian gods raced to the top of the hill and had to dig in order to get there.
