Unlike previous projects from Bugatti's Solitaire program, which were based on street-legal machines, the one-of-one Destrier is instead built off the Bolide track car. While the Bolide is a high-downforce thing akin to a Le Mans prototype, the Destrier drops many of those aerodynamic elements to take a more elegant shape. Bugatti doesn't specify if this latest one-off is road legal, but the Destrier clearly seems designed more for street use than track work.
Bugatti says the car produces the same 1578-hp output as the Bolide, but the company downplays this, claiming in a release that this is a “detail offered almost in passing.” Instead, the brand insists, the “Destrier's story is one of proportion and craftsmanship, not outright performance.”
