Whether coming from the far left or the far right, gaining political power through division is a long-tried strategy that leads to a lot of short term results, and a lot of long term harm for the population. Mayor Mamdani has a million dollar smile and is very smart, but so far his true north has been to sow division and fan the ambers of hate. His strategy has relied on grievance, polarization, and an “us versus them” mentality. He attacked and endangered Ken Griffin of Citadel for the crime of being financially successful and buying a big apartment that he pays a lot of taxes on. In doing so, he also alienated business leaders that NYC needs to attract, not exile.
