65 million people on the frontline of change. 🏝️ On the International Day for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to SIDS and their communities. #SIDS safeguard more than 20% of the planets’ known biodiversity and 30% of the world's oceans. However, despite being vital custodians of our planet, they remain among the most vulnerable to our changing climate. UNESCO works with SIDS on culture promotion and digital transformation, coastal monitoring, water resources management and climate science, strengthening local capacities, and protecting biodiversity and heritage — including 25 Biosphere Reserves and 38 World Heritage sites. SIDS are not only on the frontline of global challenges — they are shaping the solutions.
