There are thought to be around 3000-5000 globally, 1,000 in Uganda, and only 20 live in this area - so just spotting one was something I was desperately hoping we’d get lucky enough to do. But then we got closer and realised she had a tiny 3 week old chick with her 🥹 Shoebills breed incredibly slowly (once every 5 years) and usually only raise one chick successfully, so seeing one this young in the wild was a ridiculously special encounter.
