You’re looking at an elevated view across the graded site of the future Marina Safeway in 1959. The first image shows Gas House Cove and the Army Transport Piers at Fort Mason in the distance. The second image shows what we now know as the Great Meadow in Fort Mason covered with military buildings and streets. Another big change is in the works for this lot, with a proposed large scale housing project facing pushback from local residents and preservationists. Makes you wonder what this part of San Francisco will look like in another 60 years.
