Ethan Pirigyi ’26 WINS SILVER for TEAM USA at the WORLD ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Pirigyi and the United States Under-19 National Team Men’s Eight earned silver in Sunday’s final at the World Rowing U19 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Pirigyi, a Buffalo native who will row at Brown University, rowed from the 7 seat for the U.S. Men’s Eight, which finished second to world power Great Britain, which won gold for the third straight year in 5:33.84.
The U.S., operating from the outside lane (lane six) had a tremendous second half of the race to catch and pass Germany for the silver. The U.S. trailed Germany by 2 seconds at the halfway point of the 2,000-meter race but surged to beat them by about 3/4 of a second (5:36.46 to 5:37.22).
