Sami Williams entered the 2026 AUSL season after an offseason built around making the most of an opportunity she wasn’t sure would come.
As Sydney Supple shared during the AUSL All-Star Cup broadcast, Williams was unsure whether she would be drafted ahead of the Dec. 1, 2025 AUSL Draft.
She made herself a promise that if she got the chance, she would fully commit to her offseason training.
After being drafted, Williams cut back her hours as a software engineer for the Chicago Cubs and moved to part-time so she could focus more on training.
The Cubs fully supported her and gave her access to their pitching machines during spring training in Arizona and back in Chicago.
Williams went on to have her best season yet, earning 2026 AUSL Hitter of the Year honors.
She is now competing in the All-Star Cup, where Rachel Garcia described her as “the ultimate pro”: personally responsible for your outcome.
