Through the Community Fields Project, the Spokane Indians,
@LesSchwabTires, and supporting partners have pledged to restore a minimum of one baseball/softball field in the Spokane region each year. This year’s project took the team to Thornton Murphy Park, where the Indians and volunteers spent the day rejuvenating a pair of youth fields.
Improvements to the fields included: releveling of both infields, replacing and rebuilding backstops, the addition of new bases and pegs, applying four and a half pallets of Turface to the infields, cleaning up rocks and glass from the playing surfaces, and weeding and general cleanup of the surrounding areas.
“We love having the opportunity to support baseball and softball at a grassroots level in our region,” said Otto Klein, Spokane Indians Senior Vice President. “We’re grateful to all of our volunteers for their help with the project and can’t wait to see our youth players in action at Thornton Murphy Park.”
