Here’s a bright idea: visit a lighthouse. National Lighthouse Day is as good a day as any to shine a light on these beacons! The National Park Service cares for nearly 50 historic lighthouses and light stations that have helped guide ships, and inspired visitors, for generations. These candles on the water have witnessed wars, weathered hurricanes, and helped countless mariners avoid making the ocean’s version of “you can’t park there.” Today, they’re more than navigational aids. They’re places to discover remarkable engineering, fascinating history, and spectacular coastal views.
