"When I crested the final hill to the former dam site, I ran to the cliff's edge. The landscape no longer looked dire. The once severe contrast between evergreen and gray had been softened by a decade of growth. A sparkling stream braised its way through the sea of silt. It looked more like the river it was meant to be: messier, fuller, wilder. A bit like me."
