Brad Little’s administration submitted Idaho to compete for a federal Nuclear Lifecycle Innovation Campus. I’m not arguing that all nuclear waste should be removed from Idaho. I understand that’s how nuclear energy works, and I support nuclear innovation. To be clear, I support nuclear energy and the incredible work happening at Idaho National Laboratory. What I do not support is volunteering Idaho for a project involving nuclear waste without a clear public conversation about exactly what Idaho is agreeing to host. What I oppose is Brad Little volunteering Idaho to take on a dramatically larger share of the nation’s nuclear waste while selling it to Idahoans as an economic opportunity. He talks about jobs and investment. My question is simple: where is that guarantee in writing? The INL site sits above the Eastern Snake River Plain Aquifer.
