For most people on Earth, eclipses are a once in a lifetime sight. Total solar eclipses occur somewhere on the planet roughly once every 18 months, but the path of totality is narrow, so any single spot only sees one every few hundred years on average. Iceland won’t see another until 2196, and Spain hadn’t witnessed one since 1905. Tomorrow’s eclipse will be the first visible from mainland Europe since 1999.
